Vanilla Bean- Blueberry Jam Ice Cream

Nothing quite says summer to me like homemade ice cream. It’s such a fun and simple process, and I love experimenting with new flavors inspired by whatever fruit is in season or catches my eye at the Ocala Downtown Market on Saturdays.

This recipe is especially easy because it uses ingredients you likely already have in your fridge or pantry. You can use any jam you like, but my favorite version is made with homemade blueberry jam using fresh seasonal berries.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups heavy cream
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla bean paste
  • ½ cup homemade or store bought blueberry jam

Method

  1. Place heavy cream on a stove and heat on medium heat until you see some steam begin to rise (watch very closely, this does not take long)
  2. Remove cream from the heat and stir in vanilla bean paste
  3. Leave the cream to sit for 30 minutes
  4. Once 30 minutes have passed, whisk in the milk and sugar
  5. Pour this mixture into your ice cream machine and mix for 20 minutes (or follow directions for your machine)
  6. Once 20 minutes have passed dollop small spoonfuls of the blueberry jam into the machine so that it swirls through the ice cream
  7. Place ice cream in air tight container and freeze for at least 3 hours
  8. Remove from the freezer 10-20 minutes before serving
