Bourbon Apple Butter

If you have leftover apples from seasonal baking you should make homemade apple butter. My recipe uses bourbon which enhances the vanilla and cinnamon flavors. This apple butter is great on its own but also offers fantastic flavoring to holiday bakes and treats.

Ingredients

  • 2 apples (peeled and cubed)
  • 1 1/2 cups light brown sugar
  • 2 cinnamon sticks
  • 2 vanilla bean pods (split and halved)
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup bourbon
  • 1/4 cup water

Method

  1. Combine all of the ingredients in a slow cooker
  2. Cook on low for 7-8 hours
  3. Uncover and cook for 1 hour longer
  4. Remove the vanilla bean pods and cinnamon sticks
  5. Blend until smooth
  6. Let cool and then transfer to an air tight container to store in the fridge

  1. […] Homemade apple butter gives these cookies a cozy, comforting depth of flavor. The warm brown sugar and apple notes offer a subtle hint of molasses. They’re irresistibly good—don’t expect them to last long! […]
