Decadent Mocha Ice Cream

In the summertime I love to take out my ice cream maker and experiment with different ice cream flavors. One of my favorite flavors is coffee so I figured I’d create my own version. My coffee ganache is an important component in many of my recipes including my Coconut Mocha Cupcakes and my Peppermint Mocha Cupcakes . It really shines in this simple ice cream recipe as well!

Ingredients

  • 4 cups of half and half
  • 1 (14oz) can of sweetened condensed milk
  • 1/2 cup cocoa powder
  • 1/4 cup coffee
  • 3 tablespoons of instant espresso
  • 1 cup of chocolate chips

Method

  1. Make the ganache-
    • Microwave 1 cup of heavy cream with 1/2 cup of chocolate chips for three minutes
    • Remove from the microwave and whisk in an additional 1/2 cup of chocolate chips
    • Once combined whisk in the instant espresso powder until completely combined
    • Let set for 30 minutes
  2. Make the ice cream-
    • Blend together the remaining heavy cream, sweetened condensed milk, cocoa powder, and coffee
    • Blend in three tablespoons of the ganache
    • Place in ice cream machine and churn for 20 minutes
    • Add in 1/3 of the remaining ganache and mix for 5 minutes more
    • Transfer to an airtight container in large scoops while drizzling in the remaining ganache
    • Place in freezer for at least 3 hours before serving
