Brown butter is the perfect addition to almost any recipe. This simple appetizer involves story bought phyllo pastry layered with sage browned butter and topped with brie, pear, and prosciutto. It is heavenly in flavor and simple to make. The perfect dish for happy hour at home or appetizer for Thanksgiving this year!
Ingredients
- 3 pears thinly sliced
- torn strips of prosciutto
- two wedges of brie cut into slices
- 1 roll of phyllo pastry dough, thawed
- 1 egg white
- 4 tablespoons of butter
- 4 sage leaves
Method
- Heat the oven to 375
- In a skillet set to medium heat place the butter and sage leaves
- Allow the butter to melt and brown until a nutty aroma fills your kitchen
- Remove the browned butter from the skillet and save the crisp sage leaves
- Place three phyllo layers onto a parchment lined baked sheet
- Brush the phyllo with the browned butter and layer three more phyllo layers on top
- Brush with the browned butter and repeat with the remaining phyllo layers (in groups of three or more)
- Place in the oven and bake for 8 minutes
- After the first bake distribute the brie and pear slices all over the tart
- Brush the edges with an egg white
- Bake for 9 minutes
- After the second bake districute the prosciutto slices all over the tart and drizzle any remaining brown butter
- Bake for 6 more minutes
- Let cool for 10 minutes
- Top with the crispy sage leaves and serve
