Here’s a festive drink to serve up this July 4th or just a special drink for anytime of year!

The basil brings a unique flavor to the smash that distracts from the tartness of the blackberries. The result is a refreshing and satisfying cocktail- I’m picturing it poolside right now.

Below you will find the simple recipe and method to make your own Basil Blackberry Smash!
Ingredients
- 1 cup water
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 cup fresh basil
- 1.5 ounces vodka
- 10 ounces tonic water
- 4 spoonfuls of blackberries
- splash of ginger beer
Method for Basil Simple Syrup
- Make the basil simple syrup by bringing 1 cup of water, 1 cup of sugar, and 1 cup of fresh basil to a boil
- Stir until the sugar disolves and then reduce the heat and simmer for 1 minute
- Remove from the heat and let the syrup sit for 30 minutes (this can be made days in advance)
Method for Basil Blackberry Smash
- Muddle blackberries with 1.5 ounces of the basil simple sryup
- Pour over vodka
- Pour over tonic water
- Stir
- Strain into a glass
- Top with ginger beer and more blackberries
